Dana Library receives national grant of 25 'Muslim Journeys' books

In January, the National Endowment for the Humanities awarded select libraries across the country with a set of books that introduce the complex history, culture, practices, and perspectives of Muslims in the United States. We are proud that the John Cotton Dana Library, on the Rutgers- Newark campus, was one of the recipients of the Muslim Journeys Bookshelf.

Developed based on the advice of scholars, librarians, and other public programming experts, the Muslim Journeys Bookshelf provides trustworthy and accessible resources about Muslim beliefs and practices and the cultural heritage associated with Islamic civilizations. Each participating library will receive 25 books, 3 films, and access for one year to the Oxford Islamic Studies Online database. More on this story

2013 Celebration of Faculty Authors:  Exhibition opens Wed. March 27th The Libraries' tenth annual Celebration of Recently Published Faculty Authors exhibition and reception honors the recent publications of Rutgers faculty. The exhibition opening reception will be held Wednesday March 27th, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, in the atrium, on the lower level of the Alexander Library. The exhibition will run March 28th - April 30th and will be on display in the lobby of the library.  More on this story

Rutgers librarians provide web-resources for international conference

In April 2012 Carlos Decena of the Women's and Gender Studies and the Latino and Hispanic Caribbean Studies departments, in cooperation with the Center for Latino Arts and Culture and a number of other cosponsors, organized the Transnational Hispaniola II: Bodies, Commodities, Cultures and Regimes of Mobility conference. The conference was held in the School of Management and Labor Relations auditorium on the Douglass campus in New Brunswick.

Professor Decena of sought to create a website that would provide conference participants with online scholarly resources in support of the conference's theme. He turned to Kayo Denda, Libraries liaison to the Women's and Gender Studies department, and Melissa Gasparotto, Libraries liaison to the Latino and Hispanic Caribbean Studies department, to create such an easily accessible web-based platform. Working within a limited time frame, Kayo and Melissa created a Transnational Hispaniola research guide for use at the conference.  More on this story

 

New online resource at the Libraries - ProQuest Natural Science Collection

 

The Natural Science Collection provides access to nine databases covering scholarly and technical literature in the subject areas of agriculture, aquatic science, biology, conservation, earth & environmental sciences, education, food science, forestry, geography, medical sciences, meteorology, pharmacology, public health and safety, veterinary science, and water resources. Users can choose to search at the title, sub-collection, or full collection level.

The ProQuest Natural Science Collection offers over 21 million abstract and index records, 8 million indexed tables and figures, and 1,600 full text journals.
